‎New Delhi, Mar 3 (.) ‎Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended warm wishes to the nation on the sacred occasion of Attukal Pongala, emphasising the festival’s special significance for women and its message of harmony and togetherness.
‎In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Warm wishes on the sacred occasion of Attukal Pongala. This festival has a special importance for our Nari Shakti. May this auspicious day bring prosperity and good health in everyone’s lives. May the spirit of harmony and togetherness be furthered in society.”
‎Attukal Pongala, celebrated annually in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is one of the largest congregations of women devotees in the world. The festival is dedicated to Attukal Bhagavathy, worshipped at the renowned Attukal Bhagavathy Temple.
On this day, millions of women gather to prepare the ritual offering known as ‘Pongala’ — a sweet dish made of rice, jaggery and coconut — as a symbol of devotion and gratitude.
‎The festival is widely regarded as a celebration of feminine strength and devotion, often described as a living embodiment of “Nari Shakti.” It has earned recognition for drawing one of the largest assemblies of women for a religious event.
