Moscow, March 4 (.) Russia has accused the US of inventing a supposed threat from Iran as a pretext to overthrow its government.
At a briefing, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the US had used its nuclear negotiations with Iran as a cover to disguise its plan for a change in government.
She said that Iran’s nuclear facilities had again come under attack, posing a serious risk.
She added that Moscow was convinced there was no military solution to the crisis and stood ready to continue a search for solutions based on international law.
She said that Russia stands for ending the escalation of the situation in the Middle East and advocate for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a return to the political and diplomatic process.
The US and Israel, acting recklessly in the Middle East, are grossly flouting international norms and plunging the region into chaos, the spokeswoman added.
“The international community must provide an objective and, equally important, uncompromising assessment of this,” Zakharova said.
Moscow is concerned about the statements made by the US authorities regarding their intention to continue military actions against Iran until certain Washington interests are secured, the spokeswoman added.
“We note that Iran’s legitimate government is in control of the situation in the country, preventing chaos, a power vacuum, and a humanitarian crisis. Nevertheless, the military campaign unleashed against Iran is bringing grave consequences for the civilian population, civilian infrastructure and the regional and global economy,” Zakharova said.
