New Delhi, Jan 30 (.) Aam Aadmi Party leader Saurabh Bharadwaj on Friday alleged that the Delhi Jal Board’s Late Payment Surcharge (LPSC) waiver scheme was a big failure.
He claimed that it recovered only 8.5 percent of outstanding principal dues.
Bharadwaj, the AAP Delhi State President, made the allegation based on figures he presented, stating that only Rs 430 crore had been recovered against a total principal outstanding of Rs 5,057 crore. He described the scheme, introduced by the current BJP-led city government, as a “monumental failure” and a repackaged version of an older, ineffective plan.
The AAP leader stated that with dues pending from approximately 12.38 lakh consumers, the government now has no viable option to enforce recovery, as disconnecting water supply on such a scale is not practicable. He further claimed that a more effective reform proposal for the DJB, which was approved in 2023 under the previous AAP government, was stalled by officials associated with the Lieutenant Governor’s office.
