New Delhi, Jan 15 (.) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and Chief Whip Sanjeev Jha has written a strongly-worded letter to Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, alleging biased and unfair treatment of opposition legislators during the recent session held from January 4 to 9.
In the letter, Jha expressed “deep pain and anguish” over being marshalled out of the House on the final day of the session, stating he was barred from proceedings for four of the five days without being allowed to explain his position.
Jha outlined several incidents to support his claim of partiality. He cited the opening day, January 5, when AAP MLA Ajay Dutt was allegedly denied entry into the Assembly hall. A protest by opposition members against this action, Jha wrote, led to their forcible expulsion for three days—a punishment he called disproportionate for a four-day session.
The AAP chief whip also described an incident where he was reportedly prevented by security frm entering his own officially allotted office within the Assembly complex, questioning the precedent being set.
The letter contrasts this treatment with the conduct of BJP MLAs. Jha alleged that on January 7, BJP legislators protested in the well of the House, holding placards and making derogatory remarks about the former Chief Minister, yet no action was taken against them. He further claimed that BJP ministers and MLAs repeatedly disrupted proceedings on subsequent days without consequence.
A specific allegation involved BJP Minister Kapil Mishra. Jha questioned why no privilege motion was initiated against Mishra for allegedly circulating a fake video targeting the Leader of Opposition, implying the matter was ignored because it involved an opposition member.
“The people of Delhi are starting to feel that the BJP is afraid of AAP and the issues being raised by us,” Jha wrote, suggesting that expelling opposition members had become the government’s “easiest way” to avoid scrutiny.
Appealing to the Speaker’s constitutional role, Jha stated, “Rules should be uniform for everyone irrespective of the party,” warning that public perception would be one of bias otherwise. He concluded by asserting that AAP MLAs were receiving “step fatherly treatment” and urged the ruling party to engage on issues directly.
