Rawalpindi, Feb 24 (.) Expressing her mistrust of the medical diagnosis of Imran Khan, the former Pakistan premier’s sister Aleema Khan said “We do not trust the diagnosis or test reports from government medical facilities.
“From the news, we found out that Imran Khan was taken to Pims again in the middle of the night, supposedly for his second injection in the eye,” she said, questioning why the family had not been informed in advance.
“When the law requires that family be informed before any medical procedure is conducted on a prisoner, why was the family not informed?”
Aleema alleged that doctors at Pims were under pressure not to disclose information about Khan’s condition and said the family rejected any reports issued by the hospital.
She reiterated their demand that he be examined and treated at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad, under the supervision of his personal physicians and in the presence of family members.
She also claimed that Pims was not equipped to treat the condition affecting his eye and described the government’s actions as “criminal”, warning that it would be held accountable.
In a later post, Aleema Khan said she had been stopped by police while attempting to reach Adiala Jail, where her brother is incarcerated.
Tuesdays and Thursdays are court-mandated days for meetings between Khan and his family, lawyers and party leaders.
“If they have nothing to hide, why are they refusing to allow us to meet our brother?” she asked, also questioning why his personal doctors were not being permitted to examine him.
She further claimed that Khan had been kept in solitary confinement for more than four months, apart from three brief visits by their sister Dr Uzma Khan, the last of which she said took place on December 2, 2025.
Senior figures from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) echoed similar concerns, with former MNA Omar Ayub Khan said it was “totally unacceptable” that Khan had been treated without his personal physicians present. Addressing Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, he called for orders to ensure that Khan’s treatment be carried out at Shifa International in the presence of his doctors.
The opposition alliance Tehreek e Tahafuz Ayin Pakistan (TTAP) also criticised the lack of prior notification. Its spokesperson, Akhunzada Hussain Yousafzai, said that even senior opposition leaders were unaware of the hospital visit until after it had taken place.
He said he contacted National Assembly Opposition Leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas and PTI chairman Gohar Ali Khan, all of whom were initially unaware of the development.
Gohar later confirmed that Khan had been taken to Pims and returned to jail, saying he himself was informed by message at around 2:00 am. “I was not informed in advance,” he said, reiterating the party’s demand for a full medical check-up at Shifa International in the presence of Khan’s personal doctors and family.
The government has said it previously invited Gohar to attend a medical examination of Khan at Adiala jail on February 15, but he declined following party consultations.
Separately, Gohar and PTI MNA Ali Muhammad Khan met the registrar of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to seek early hearings of cases pending before the court involving the former premier.
Calling Imran Khan’s health a humanitarian issue rather than a political one, Gohar said PTI lawyer Latif Khosa would file an application for early fixation of the cases. “Our request is that a treatment of his choice be provided as per the jail manual,” he said, adding that neither the party nor the family had been informed before the hospital transfer.
Ali Muhammad Khan questioned the secrecy surrounding the episode. “A former prime minister was brought and taken back in the dark of the night. Smugglers operate in the night; not states,” he remarked, adding that if official reports of Khan’s recovery were accurate, there was no reason for secrecy.
Meanwhile, members of the TTAP staged a second day of protest outside the Supreme Court, demanding Khan’s release and the early scheduling of his cases. Among those present were Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and several senators and MNAs affiliated with the opposition.
