Imphal, Feb 17 (.) Assam Rifles Women Polo Team and Imphal Riding Club, Lamphel, advanced to the final of the 4th Chittamohini State Women’s Polo Cup 2026 after registering convincing victories in their respective semi-final encounters played at the historic Imphal Polo Ground under the aegis of the Manipur Horse Riding & Polo Association (MHRPA) on Tuesday.
In the first semi-final, Assam Rifles Women’s Polo Team overcame Chingkhei Hunba Polo Club, Kongpal, 6–4 in a well-contested match marked by structured play and disciplined execution.
Assam Rifles opened their account with two goals in the first chukker to take an early 2–1 lead. The second chukker saw them consolidate their advantage with two more goals, stretching the margin to 4–1 at halftime. Both sides battled intensely through the third chukker, which remained scoreless, as defensive formations tightened and midfield contests intensified.
Chingkhei Hunba attempted a comeback in the fourth chukker, finding the posts twice to reduce the deficit. However, Assam Rifles responded promptly with two crucial strikes of their own to close the match at 6–4.
The victory reflected Assam Rifles’ balanced approach, effective rotation, and controlled pace, ensuring they maintained command during decisive phases of the contest.
In the second semi-final, Imphal Riding Club, Lamphel, produced a dominant display to defeat Ibudhou Pakhangba Polo Club, Malom, 9–2.
Imphal Riding Club established early supremacy, scoring two goals in the opening chukker. They intensified their offensive thrust in the second chukker, adding four more goals to build a commanding 6–0 advantage at halftime.
Ibudhou Pakhangba Polo Club managed to break through in the third chukker to open their tally, but Imphal Riding Club continued to control possession and dictate play. The Lamphel side added further goals in the fourth period while restricting their opponents to a single additional strike, sealing a comprehensive 9–2 victory.
Their performance was characterised by swift ball distribution, accurate finishing, and cohesive teamwork, underscoring their credentials as strong title contenders.
With contrasting yet effective campaigns in the semi-finals, Assam Rifles Women’s Polo Team and Imphal Riding Club will now clash in the final of the tournament on February 19.
While Assam Rifles have demonstrated tactical discipline and composure under pressure, Imphal Riding Club has displayed attacking flair and scoring depth. The forthcoming final promises a competitive encounter as both sides vie for the coveted Chittamohini State Women’s Polo Cup title.
