New Delhi, Dec 31 (.) James Cameron’s highly anticipated sci-fi adventure ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ was expected to surpass the success of ‘Dhurandhar’ at the Indian box office, but it fell short of expectations.
The Hollywood epic maintained steady earnings through its first week but saw a significant drop from its second Monday (Day 11) onward.
According to Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 5.25 crore on Day 12 (second Tuesday) in India, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 148.15 crore. Comparisons with the franchise’s previous installments show that the latest film has struggled to draw the same level of audience attention.
The second ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ had several advantages, including a 16-year gap since the release of the original, which created enormous anticipation. It also faced no competition from Indian films, helping its initial box office run.
Globally, ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ has earned USD 794 million, with USD 216.91 million from the U.S. and USD 577.2 million from international markets, according to Box Office Mojo.
Directed by James Cameron, the film stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Kate Winslet. It hit theaters on December 19, 2025.
