New Delhi, Jan 8 (.) Avro India Ltd has commissioned a greenfield flexible plastic recycling facility, marking a significant expansion of its operations into organised recycling of difficult-to-process plastic waste, an official statement said here on Thursday.
The facility, operated through its wholly owned subsidiary AVRO Recycling Ltd, has an initial processing capacity of 500 metric tonnes per month and is expected to scale up to 1,000 metric tonnes per month by the fourth quarter of FY 2025–26.
The company has invested Rs 25 crore in the project so far and plans to deploy an additional Rs 30 crore by FY 2027 to expand recycling capacity and develop further facilities.
The recycling unit is designed to process flexible plastic waste such as cement bags, sugar and salt packaging, putty bags and similar industrial materials that have traditionally been considered hard to recycle. These waste streams were earlier either downcycled or managed largely by the unorganised sector.
Avro India said it has developed a proprietary recycling process after more than three years of research and trials, enabling large-scale upcycling of complex plastic waste. The company estimates that the system can support the responsible processing of nearly one million metric tonnes of such waste generated annually in India.
The recycled output is converted into polymer granules that are reused in manufacturing across sectors including consumer durables, automotive components and household products. These materials are supplied at lower cost compared to virgin plastic while meeting industrial quality and durability standards.
The commissioning of the facility comes amid increasing regulatory focus on recycled plastic usage under Extended Producer Responsibility norms, which require manufacturers to incorporate recycled content in plastic products. This has increased demand for consistent and large-scale supplies of high-quality recycled polymers.
Avro India, which is listed on the NSE and BSE, said it plans to expand its recycling operations through additional facilities using a decentralised model, supporting the development of a circular economy and strengthening organised plastic waste management infrastructure.
