Washington, Feb 17 (.) One person was killed and three others were injured after a shootout and vehicle collision near Mondawmin Mall in Baltimore on Monday night, city police said on Tuesday.
Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said officers responded to the 2400 block of Liberty Heights Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. after reports of gunfire and a crash. Multiple streets in the area were closed as an extensive crime scene was processed.
Worley said officers arriving at the scene found two vehicles that had collided in the mall parking lot, with two people suffering gunshot wounds. A third non‑fatal shooting victim was located in the 3000 block of Tioga Parkway, and a fourth person was found dead in the 2500 block of Liberty Heights Avenue.
“All indications are that this was a shootout,” Worley said, adding that it appeared the exchange of gunfire occurred in the parking lot where the vehicles had crashed.
Police said three handguns and a rifle were recovered from the scene.
The injured were taken to area hospitals with non‑life‑threatening injuries. An investigation is underway, and authorities have asked anyone with information to contact police at 1‑866‑7LOCKUP.
Local television station CBS reported that the shootout and crash unfolded in the mall parking lot on Monday night, consistent with the police account.
