Dhaka, Feb 11 (.) The Bangladesh Election Commission on Wedesday began distributing election materials, including ballot boxes, to all the polling centres established across the country ahead of the twin polls for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary elections and the July Charter referendum, scheduled to take place Thursday.
According to the commission’s schedule, ballot boxes are expected to reach polling centres in the capital, along with all other major metropolitan areas, by the evening.
Across distribution centres, polling officials, along with members of law enforcement agencies, and Ansar, are receiving election materials for their respective centres, while reviewing the final security arrangements and electoral code of conduct.
According to The Daily Star, after receiving the materials, polling officials will verify them against the checklist to ensure that everything has been provided as required and to identify any discrepancies. Post review, officials will take them to the polling centres and set up the booths today in preparation for tomorrow’s voting.
Similar distribution activities were seen at several other centres both within and outside Dhaka.
Voting for both the polls will be held Thursday, commencing early morning with polling stations scheduled to open at 7:30 am (7 am Indian Standard Time and will continue to remain open until 4:30 pm (4 pm IST) without any break, across all 42,779 centres nationwide.
The EC said that over 12.77 crore voters are eligible to cast their ballots, including 6.48 crore men and 6.28 crore women. Reportedly, balloting will take place at 299 of the country’s 300 constituencies, due to polling being delayed in Sherpur-3 following the death of a candidate of Jamaat.
