Khulna (Bangladesh) , Feb 2 (.) BNP chairman Tarique Rahman, slamming the chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, over his controversial post about working women on his X account, accused the Jamaat leader of lying, alleging that his account was not hacked as claimed.
Citing the opinions of experts on Ameer’s claims of a so-called hack, Rahman said that the account of a verified major political party cannot be compromised in the manner claimed.
Alleging that the hardline Islamist group was making fabricated claims to serve its political interests ahead of the elections, the BNP chief, while addressing a rally in Khulna city, said, “They have only one identity, they are liars.”
Addressing the rally, he said a political party that insults and humiliates women ahead of elections cannot keep the country safe.
“Today I want to tell the mothers and sisters of Bangladesh that the time has come for you to decide how you will respond to those who have insulted you in this way,” the BNP chief said.
“Experts have clearly said in many ways that an account cannot be hacked like this,” he added.
The BNP chairperson further accused the Jamaat of spreading misinformation just as the polls were on the horizon, alleging that a senior leader of such a major political party was already misleading the public.
“Even the party is lying, saying their ID was hacked, when in fact it was not,” he said, claiming that such statements were made for personal and political gain.
“Those who lie in front of crores of people, and experts, can never truly care about the country,” Rahman said, adding that such figures care only for their self-interest, and have little interest in serving the public.
The BNP chief’s remarks came following a post by the Jamaat leader from his verified account, in which he likened working women to prostitutes, and said that a woman’s role in public life led society to moral “decay”.
While the post was deleted within minutes, multiple screenshots had been taken already and spread across social media, triggering intense public backlash, both online and offline against Ameer, with political parties, social groups, and general public all demanding an apology from the Ameer’s comments.
The party, meanwhile, claimed the account was hacked by a ‘special group’ and filed a GD at Hatirjheel Police Station.
