New Delhi, 23 Feb (.) Bomb threats disrupted Delhi on Monday, targeting the Assembly, Secretariat, Red Fort, and multiple schools, prompting high alert and extensive security operations across the city throughout the day, an official said.
Officials conducted searches following the bomb threats, however, nothing was found, declaring them a hoax. “The emails, allegedly from the Khalistan National Army, warned of timed explosions at specific locations,” a police officer said.
Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta said that he received a bomb threat on his personal email. He stated that at 3:11 pm, he got an email warning of an explosion at the Assembly, and police are investigating.
The Delhi Assembly’s official X account confirmed that the email threat was promptly reported to security agencies and the Delhi Police Commissioner.
According to the sources, threatening emails were sent this morning that carried the message “Delhi banega Khalistan” and warned of blasts over three days at Red Fort, Delhi Army School, and Metro stations, specifying 9:11 am, 1:11 pm, and 3:11 pm, respectively, for each location.
The Delhi Secretariat received a bomb threat via email, one of the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) officers mentioned. He added that after the intel, teams were immediately dispatched at noon, but no suspicious items have been found so far.
Aam Aadmi Party leader and former MLA Dilip K. Pandey wrote on X that he received a bomb threat on his personal email and promptly forwarded it to Delhi Police due to public safety concerns.
A thorough search operation was conducted, and the premises were checked meticulously. Following which, the officials confirmed that no suspicious items were found on the premises.
Among schools, Army Public School in Dhaula Kuan and Air Force Bal Bharti School on Lodhi Road received bomb threat emails in the morning, with earlier reports also citing Air Force Golden Jubilee School in Dhaula Kuan.
As a precaution, school administrations alerted the authorities. Police, bomb disposal teams, dog squads, and the DFS quickly arrived, cordoned off the areas, and carried out thorough searches.
“No suspicious items were found, and the threats were subsequently confirmed to be a hoax,” an official said.
According to a statement by DFS officer, “We received intel of bomb threat emails targeting schools on Monday morning. As a precaution, fire and rescue teams were immediately dispatched. So far, nothing suspicious has been found.”
Meanwhile, police on this said, “We are currently verifying the origin of the emails, and a detailed investigation is ongoing.”
On Monday, cyber cell teams were deployed to trace the source of the emails and identify the sender. The campuses were thoroughly inspected and cleared before normal activities resumed later in the day.
This is not the first incident of its kind. In recent weeks, several schools in Delhi, including CRPF Public School in Rohini, St Thomas School in Dwarka, and DAV Centenary Public School in Paschim Enclave, received similar bomb threat emails, all of which were later confirmed to be hoaxes.
Officials noted that over 500 bomb threat cases were reported in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) last year alone. In the past two weeks, at least four threat emails have targeted schools across the region.
