New Delhi, Feb 21 (.) Brazilian President Lula da Silva has called for a model of global governance for Artificial Intelligence led by the United Nations.
Speaking at the AI Summit here, the Brazilian President said, “The fourth industrial revolution is advancing rapidly while multilateralism is retreating dangerously.” ”It is in this context that the global governance of artificial intelligence assumes a strategic role. Every technological innovation of great impact has a dual character and confronts us with ethical and political questions,” he said.
Stressing on creating an international organisation for cooperation in AI, focused on developing countries, as well as the Global Partnership on AI developed within the G7, he, however, said none of these fora replaces the universality of the United Nations in the international governance of AI.
The digital revolution and AI boost industrial productivity, public services, medicine, and food and energy security, but can also foster hate speech, disinformation, child pornography, and femicide, he added.
“False content manipulated by artificial intelligence distorts electoral processes and jeopardises democracy. Algorithms are not merely applications of mathematical codes that underpin the digital world,” he added.
President Lula said Brazil advocates governance that recognises the diversity of national trajectories and ensures that AI strengthens democracy, social cohesion, and the sovereignty of countries.
