New Delhi, Jan 12 (.) The Delhi government has decided to extend winter holidays until January 15 as severe cold accompanied by wind has gripped the national Capital. The winter holidays began on January 1. Keeping in mind the safety of students, classes beginning from nursery to 8 will remain shut as per orders of the Directorate of Education (DoE).
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issue orange and yellow warnings while stating that cold to severe cold wave conditions are likely to continue across Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand for the next two-three days.
On Monday, Delhi’s temperature dipped to around 3 degrees. On January 16, 2023 the temperature had plummeted to 1.4 degrees. With Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi fluctuating between very poor to poor category, doctors have advised children and the elderly to stay home.
“The well-being of our students is paramount. Extending the holidays for younger children is a necessary step to protect them from health risks associated with this intense cold,” stated a DoE official in the public notice.
