Bengaluru, Feb 22 (.) Coorg Hawks clinched the title at the seventh edition of the CHAIROS Bheemaiah Hockey Cup with a thrilling 7-5 victory over Pale Taluk in a high-octane final at the Field Marshal K. M. Cariappa Hockey Arena here on Sunday.
The summit clash capped three days of intense 5A-side action that saw 18 teams from across the country battle for supremacy in one of Karnataka’s most vibrant grassroots hockey tournaments. The 5A-side format, known for its speed and relentless pace, ensured end-to-end contests, with Coorg Hawks holding their nerve in a goal-laden finale to lift the coveted trophy.
Organised by the Coorg Challengers Chickpet Association under the aegis of Hockey India and Hockey Karnataka, the tournament once again drew participation from several national-level players, adding quality and competitive depth to the event.
Southern Command and DYES Karnataka finished third and fourth respectively, while SAI STC won the Shootout Competition Trophy in a special contest that added further excitement to the tournament.
The event was sponsored by QNET, which continued its association as title sponsor, reinforcing its support for grassroots sports development.
Arjuna Awardee and former Indian Olympian goalkeeper AB Subbaiah graced the closing ceremony and felicitated the winners. He praised the organisers for sustaining a competitive platform that nurtures emerging talent and strengthens the state’s hockey ecosystem.
With another successful edition concluded, the CHAIROS Bheemaiah Hockey Cup has further cemented its place as a key fixture in Karnataka’s hockey calendar and a stepping stone for aspiring players seeking higher competitive exposure.
