New Delhi, Feb 1 (.) The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Sunday criticised the union Budget 2026, alleging that it ignores people’s livelihood concerns and weakens India’s federal structure, “while concentrating power and resources in fewer hands.”
Reacting to the Finance Minister’s Budget speech, CPI Rajya Sabha MP P. Sandosh Kumar said the proposals reflect a deliberate political choice to “look away from people’s hardships”, even as ordinary citizens grapple with falling real incomes, rising unemployment and economic uncertainty .
Kumar said, ” There is no serious attempt to revive demand or expand public spending where it matters most.” Although the Economic Survey itself acknowledges that consumption is sustaining growth, the Budget fails to strengthen rural purchasing power or provide meaningful relief to salaried and middle-income households, he added.
He also pointed to dilution of social sector allocations and absence of fresh stimulus for urban workers.
The CPI leader said agriculture continues to be treated with indifference, noting that the long-standing demand for a statutory minimum support price (MSP) to stabilise farm incomes has been ignored.
He also criticised the government for remaining silent on workers’ protests against the four labour codes, which, according to him, weaken job security and social protection. . JRC
