New Delhi, Jan 16 (.) Delhi AAP president Saurabh Bharadwaj on Friday alleged that the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta have remained silent spectators to organised illegal sand mining in the city’s Burari and Jagatpur areas, despite clear evidence and judicial orders.
“The LG has taken no action on the DCP, and the CM has not suspended the concerned DM. What is their collusion with them? Why has no FIR been lodged against the mining mafia?” Bharadwaj asked during a press conference.
The allegations centre around mining activity along the Yamuna floodplains. Bharadwaj presented what he claimed was recent video evidence from January 13, showing ongoing extraction.
He cited an NGT observation from April 2025, which reportedly said district magistrates were only engaged in a “mere exchange of letters” and showed no intent to stop the illegal activity. Bharadwaj further claimed that despite a Delhi government affidavit in October 2025 asserting no mining was occurring, fresh proof was submitted to the tribunal in December.
“AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha complained to the CM, LG, Home Minister, and all local officers on January 10. Yet, the mining continues. Instead of action, officials have illegally permitted a road to be built for the trucks,” Bharadwaj alleged.
He questioned the silence of the authorities, asking why the DM and DCP had not been acted against despite the evidence. He also demanded to know why no FIR had been filed under stringent laws like the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against the alleged mafia. . ATK SQ PRP
