New Delhi, Jan 8 (.) The Delhi Legislative Assembly convened on Thursday for a sitting marked by an extensive and multifaceted legislative agenda.
The proceedings commenced with the Question Hour, during which members will seek clarifications and responses from the government on matters of public importance.
This will be followed by a Special Mention under Rule 280, providing legislators an opportunity to raise urgent issues of concern without prior notice to the House.
A key highlight of the session will be the presentation by the Chief Minister and Finance Minister, Rekha Gupta, who will lay before the Assembly the first batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants for the financial year 2025–26. She will also introduce the Delhi Appropriation (No. 1) Bill, 2026, which will be taken up for consideration and passage, enabling the government to authorize additional expenditure.
The House will also witness the tabling of several important reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), covering a wide spectrum of Delhi government functioning, including finances, revenue administration, social sector performance, and the operations of the Delhi Jal Board. In addition, the annual report and audit reports of Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Delhi for the years 2021–22 and 2022–23 will be presented. Reports of key legislative committees—namely the Public Accounts Committee, the Business Advisory Committee, and the Committee of Privileges—will be laid on the table and subsequently taken up for adoption by the House.
On the legislative front, the Assembly will consider and pass the Court Fees (Delhi Amendment) Bill, 2026. Two new bills will also be introduced, one pertaining to the Jan Vishwas provisions and another concerning Shops and Establishments, signaling further regulatory and administrative reforms.
The session will also include ministerial statements addressing critical issues such as environmental protection and pollution control measures in the capital, alongside a statement commemorating the 150th anniversary of the patriotic song ‘Vande Mataram’. A congratulatory motion acknowledging the Atal Canteen Yojna will be moved, reflecting the government’s focus on welfare initiatives.
The Assembly will take up a discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the Lieutenant Governor’s address, bringing together legislative reflection on the government’s vision, policies, and priorities for the year ahead.
