New Delhi, Jan 2 (.) The residents of national capital woke up to a partly cloudy sky, with medium to dense fog reported in several areas of the city.

As a thick layer of smog continues to blanket the Delhi-NCR region, airlines have cancelled and multiple flights have been delayed, an official said on Friday.

On late Thursday night, IndiGo announced the cancellation of some flights scheduled for Friday due to the forecast of early-morning fog in Delhi. In a travel advisory shared on X, the airline warned that low visibility could disrupt flight operations and result in longer wait times at the airport.

Air India, in a travel advisory issued on Thursday, dense fog and poor visibility in Delhi and parts of northern India has been forecasted on Friday morning which could disrupt flight schedules and trigger knock-on effects across its network.

Dense fog continued to hamper air travel on Friday, causing inconvenience to the passengers. In a post on X, IndiGo said that early-morning fog was expected to reduce visibility across Delhi, prompting the advance cancellation of a few flights to minimise waiting time at the airport.

We have cancelled a few flights scheduled for tomorrow in advance to minimize airport waiting time. We understand this may affect your plans and appreciate your understanding,” the post read.

Passengers affected by flight cancellations can rebook their journeys or request a refund online. The airline added that its ground staff would be on hand to assist travelers at all points of contact.

Air India also released an advisory cautioning that dense fog and low visibility in Delhi and parts of northern India may disrupt flight schedules. The airline noted that morning delays or cancellations could create cascading effects across its network for the rest of the day.

“Passengers booked on select flights during the fog window will continue to receive advance notifications under our FogCare initiative and will have the option to change their flights at no extra cost or opt for a full refund without any penalty,” the airline said in its advisory.

The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Delhi on Friday, forecasting a partly cloudy sky with moderate fog in many areas and dense to very dense fog in some places during the morning hours.

According to IMD forecasts, the minimum temperature on Friday is likely to hover between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is expected to range from 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. Neighboring areas, including Gurugram and Noida, are also likely to experience similar weather conditions.
