Los Angeles, Jan 25 (.) The popular anime series ‘Dragon Ball Super’ is set for a fully remastered return this fall under the new title ‘Dragon Ball Super: Beerus’, the franchise revealed at the ‘Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri’ event in Japan, Variety reports.
The enhanced edition includes extensive visual upgrades, such as new animation sequences, re-rendered footage, updated voice acting, and a completely overhauled musical score and sound design.
The project, years in the making, aims to offer a more faithful adaptation of creator Akira Toriyama’s original vision using state-of-the-art animation techniques.
The announcement came during a live presentation at Makuhari Messe, featuring voice actors Masako Nozawa (Goku) and Koichi Yamadera (God of Destruction Beerus), alongside executive producer Akio Iyoku.
A launch trailer and key visual were also unveiled, highlighting the series’ improved production quality, according to Variety.
As per Variety, the story centers on Beerus, the God of Destruction, awakening after a long slumber and setting his sights on Earth upon hearing of a Saiyan who defeated Frieza, leading to an epic showdown with Goku and his allies.
This enhanced series fully reconstructs the original ‘Dragon Ball Super’ anime, retaining Toriyama’s storylines and character designs while delivering heightened visual intensity, especially during battle sequences.
At the same event, the franchise also announced ‘Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol’, a new series continuing the story beyond the Universe Survival Arc of the 2015–2018 broadcast.
Since its debut in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 1984, the Dragon Ball franchise has grown into a global phenomenon, spanning anime, films, video games, and merchandise. The 2024 launch of ‘Dragon Ball Daima’ celebrated the 40th anniversary of Toriyama’s original manga.
