Washington, Feb 17 (.) Dwayne Johnson has revealed that veteran actor Danny DeVito has officially completed filming on the upcoming untitled ‘Jumanji’ sequel, confirming that the film will mark the final installment of the modern franchise.
Sharing the update on Instagram, Johnson paid tribute to DeVito, describing him as both a “friend” and a “legend,” and reflecting on their journey together in the blockbuster adventure series. Principal photography for the film began in November 2025, with DeVito wrapping his scenes approximately three months into production.
“That’s an official wrap on my friend and the only legend, Danny DeVito,” Johnson wrote. “What a ride this JUMANJI journey has been. It’s been an honor to share the screen with him and, more importantly, to have him as a partner in this final dance.”
Johnson also confirmed that the upcoming film will serve as the “final chapter” of the modern Jumanji saga, calling it a “beautiful grace note” to the series. By using the hashtag ‘TheFinalLevel’, he appeared to hint at the film’s likely title, widely referred to as Jumanji: The Final Level.
The post included a warm behind-the-scenes photograph of Johnson and DeVito standing together on set, playfully highlighting their height difference. Johnson had his arm around DeVito, reflecting their off-screen camaraderie. In the previous installment, DeVito portrayed Eddie Gilpin, whose in-game avatar was Johnson’s Dr. Smolder Bravestone, a dynamic Johnson once described as giving the two actors shared “DNA” within the franchise.
The film will reunite the core avatar cast, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan, alongside DeVito and members of the returning teenage ensemble from earlier films. Sony Pictures has scheduled the movie for a theatrical release on December 11, 2026.
The upcoming installment is also expected to include a tribute to the late Robin Williams, who starred in the original 1995 Jumanji. Reports suggest Johnson’s character will be seen wearing the iconic dice from the first film as a necklace, symbolically linking the franchise’s legacy to its concluding chapter.
