New Delhi, Feb 10 (.) The Election Commission of India on Tuesday revised the schedule of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in West Bengal, following directions issued by the Supreme Court.
In a communication sent to the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal, the Commission said it was forwarding the Supreme Court’s order dated February 9, 2026, passed in WP(C) No. 1089/2025 and connected matters, and directed that it be followed “for strict compliance.”
“In compliance of the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s direction, the Commission has decided to revise the programme of ongoing Special Intensive Revision in the State of West Bengal,” the ECI said in its letter issued from Nirvachan Sadan, New Delhi.
As per the revised programme, hearings on notices issued during the revision exercise must be completed by February 14, 2026. Scrutiny of documents and disposal of cases is to be concluded by February 21, followed by rationalisation of polling stations by February 25. The Commission has also scheduled checking of health parameters of the electoral rolls by February 27, with the final publication of the updated electoral roll set for February 28, 2026.
An Election Commission official said the revised timeline was aimed at ensuring transparency and procedural fairness while adhering to the court’s directions. “The Commission is committed to completing the revision exercise in a time-bound manner while fully complying with the Supreme Court’s order,” the official said.
The Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in West Bengal has been underway since late 2025, with the ECI issuing multiple instructions to state election authorities on October 27, December 30, and January 15. The exercise involves verification of existing entries, disposal of claims and objections, and rationalisation of polling stations to ensure accuracy of voter lists.
The matter reached the Supreme Court amid challenges related to the revision process, prompting the court to issue directions on February 9. The ECI’s latest communication seeks to align the ongoing exercise with those directions.
The Commission has also asked that the revised schedule be brought to the notice of all concerned authorities for implementation. Copies of the letter have been marked to the Chief Secretary of West Bengal, the Senior Deputy Election Commissioner (General Body), and the Director General (IT).
