New Delhi, Jan 30 (.) Filmmaker Pa. Ranjith has questioned the fairness and transparency of award bodies at both the state and national levels, following the Tamil Nadu government’s recent announcement of the State Film Awards and State Television Awards.
Taking to X after the awards were announced, Ranjith raised concerns about the integrity of award systems and whether they truly function in an unbiased manner.
He wrote, “In light of the Tamil Nadu government announcing the film awards, I have a question for you: Do government and private award organizations, at both the Tamil Nadu and national levels, truly operate with integrity?”
The Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for the years 2016 to 2022, along with the State Television Awards for 2014 to 2022, were announced on Thursday. The awards recognised several prominent figures from the film and television industries, honouring actors, directors, and music composers for their contributions over the years.
The State Film Awards included multiple leading actors in the Best Actor category across different years, with Dhanush, Vijay Sethupathi, Suriya, Arya, Vikram Prabhu, Karthi, and Parthiban among the recipients.
In the Best Actress category, the winners included Nayanthara, Keerthy Suresh, Jyothika, Aparna Balamurali, Lijomol Jose, and Sai Pallavi.
