    New Delhi, Feb 12(.) The Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences defeated defending champions Delhi University Alumna 8–7 in sudden death after a closely contested match to win the women’s title of the 12th Padma Shree Shyam Lal Memorial Hockey Tournament.
    Yashasvi from the winning team received the Player of the Match award.
    In the final, played at the Shyam Lal College ground the match between Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences (IGIPESS) and Delhi University Alumna locked 2–2 in regulation time. In the tie-breaker, both teams scored five goals each, making the score 7–7. The match was then decided in sudden death, where IGIPESS clinched the victory 8–7 to secure the title.
    For the winning team, Pinky, Sukanya, and Bindu scored two goals each, while Aanchal and Somvati scored one goal each. For the runners-up, Manita scored three goals, Vidhi scored two, and Sonika and Kanchan scored one goal each.
    The chief guests at the final match were Mr. Jitendra Mahajan, MLA from Rohtas Nagar; Ritesh Suji, Councillor of Welcome Ward; and Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar, Principal of Shyam Lal College (Morning), who presented the awards to the players.
    Encouraging the players, Mahajan advised them to work hard and reach new heights in hockey.
    He said, “Shyam Lal College has a 40-year-old tradition in hockey. I was also a student here. Whenever there was a university hockey match, three U- special buses filled with supporters would go to cheer for the team. I have seen V.S. Jaggi play as a student, and now he is encouraging the children as a teacher.”
    Principal Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar thanked all the guests, congratulated the players, and praised V.S. Jaggi for the excellent organization of the tournament. He expressed hope that the players would continue to work hard in the same spirit.
