New Delhi, Jan 12 (.) Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant paid rich tributes to Swami Vivekananda, describing him as one of India’s greatest visionaries and the country’s finest international ambassador of culture and philosophy.

While inaugurating a blood donation camp at the Supreme Court premises on Monday, the Chief Justice said that Swami Vivekananda’s teachings remain deeply relevant, especially for the younger generation.
The blood donation camp was jointly organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and the Adhivakta Parishad, Supreme Court Unit, on the occasion of Vivekananda Jayanti.
“What a great visionary person Swami Vivekananda was. His teachings are extremely important, especially for the new generation. Each word he spoke was visionary, full of moral and ethical values, and promoted our country’s rich heritage and cultural ethos. He was India’s greatest international ambassador of culture and philosophy,” the Chief Justice said.
Justice Surya Kant was among several national leaders who paid homage to Swami Vivekananda on his 164th birth anniversary, observed across the country as National Youth Day.
Leaders from different walks of life, including the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, also paid their respects, recalling Swami Vivekananda’s enduring message of character-building, self-belief, and nation-building.
A common theme running through the tributes was the emphasis on energising India’s youth by drawing inspiration from Swami Vivekananda’s ideals and guiding them towards the goal of building a developed and self-reliant nation. The National Youth Day this year was observed with the theme ‘Ignite the Self; Impact the World’.
The Chief Justice’s participation in the event highlighted the judiciary’s engagement with national icons and social causes.
Justice Surya Kant took oath as the 53rd Chief Justice of India in November 2025 and has since been actively associated with initiatives that underline constitutional values, social responsibility, and inspiration drawn from India’s civilisational heritage.
