Mumbai, Jan 6 (.) Actor-director Vir Das has shared that Imran Khan’s involvement in ‘Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos’ came about in an unexpected and refreshing informal manner.
Making his directorial debut with Aamir Khan Productions’ venture, Das shared that Imran Khan’s association with the film began with an unassuming message that quietly evolved into a creative collaboration.
He explained how Imran Khan became a part of the film in a completely unexpected and unusual way.
Speaking about this, Das explained how a simple message turned into a fun and creative opportunity that gave birth to a key character in the film.
Das recounted his surprise when he received a text message from Khan—on SMS, no less. “One day, I got a text from Imran. He doesn’t even use WhatsApp,” Das revealed. “The message said, ‘Hey, I hear the movie is shaping up nicely. Can I come and do something fun in the film?'”
According to Das, this message was a nice surprise for him, especially since Khan does very selective projects and has stayed away from the limelight for the past few years.
That message, according to Das, ignited the idea of creating a distinctive and unconventional role specifically for Khan.
Das said, “When he approached me, I started creating a space for him in the script of Happy Patel. I told him, ‘Yes, of course, but give me some time. I will craft a character for you that is entertaining and wild, and we need to do something you’ve never attempted before.”’
The film stars Mona Singh, Sharib Hashmi, and Mithila Palkar in lead roles, and is scheduled to release in theatres on January 16, 2026.
