New Delhi, Jan 2 (.) Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) on Friday formally launched its centenary celebrations with a curtain raiser ceremony at its North Campus, marking 100 years of its contribution to commerce and economics education in India. The event brought together academic leaders, policymakers and distinguished alumni to reflect on the institution’s legacy and outline its vision for the future.
As SRCC enters its centenary year from 1926 to 2026, the college announced a year-long programme of academic conclaves, policy discussions, alumni interactions and global collaborations. The celebrations aim to position the institution to meet the evolving demands of the economy and higher education in the coming decades.
The ceremony was presided over by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi, Prof. Yogesh Singh, who attended as the Chief Guest, along with Ajay S. Shriram, Chairman of the SRCC Governing Body. The event began with a tribute to Sir Shri Ram, the founder of the institution, who established it in 1920 as The Commercial School with the objective of nurturing indigenous business leadership in pre-Independence India. A commemorative coffee table book chronicling SRCC’s journey over the decades was also released.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Yogesh Singh described SRCC as a globally recognised academic institution whose impact extends beyond rankings. He said the college has played a significant role in shaping economists, administrators, judges and business leaders who have contributed to India’s growth. Referring to India’s emergence as the world’s fourth largest economy, he said such milestones highlight the importance of institutions like SRCC in building intellectual and leadership capacity. He urged the college to focus on entrepreneurship, innovation and emerging areas such as artificial intelligence and digital finance in the years ahead.
Chairman of the Governing Body Ajay S. Shriram said the centenary marked both a moment of reflection and a roadmap for the future. He recalled SRCC’s journey from its early days in Daryaganj to becoming one of the country’s foremost centres for commerce education. Emphasising that the institution’s strength lies in its people, he outlined priorities including academic excellence, research, infrastructure expansion, AI-enabled learning, sustainability and stronger alumni engagement.
Welcoming the guests, SRCC Principal Prof. Simrit Kaur said the centenary was a collective achievement shaped by generations of faculty, students, staff and alumni. She reiterated the college’s commitment to ethical education, social responsibility and national service, adding that SRCC continues to stand for values-driven leadership.
The event was attended by several eminent alumni and well-wishers, including former judges, ministers and industry leaders, who shared reflections on SRCC’s role in shaping their personal and professional journeys. The ceremony concluded with the illumination of the heritage campus and a cultural presentation, symbolising the beginning of SRCC’s next century.
