Jerusalem/Tehran, Feb 28 (.) In an assessment report by the IDF, Israel believes that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was in all likelihood killed in an earlier strike today, according to Channel 12.
Citing unnamed Israeli sources, it says there are “growing indications” to this effect, though there is no official confirmation of the report.
The TV station had earlier reported that as per Jerusalem’s assessment, Khamenei was most definitely “hurt at the very least,” and that this was not one based on satellite imagery which showed the Supreme Leader’s presidential compound being flattened, but rather on direct information received from anonymous sources.
Israeli security officials said that Khamenei is reportedly set to deliver a nationwide address shortly. If the address does indeed go through, then it was likely recorded in advance.
Channel 12 also reported that the early strikes in Tehran had caused “very significant harm” to the Islamic Republic’s leadership as well as its commanders, given that several key Iranian security officials were killed in targeted strikes by the IDF.
This includes the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Gen. Mohammad Pakpour and Iranian Defence Minister Amir Nasirzadeh, who were killed in Israeli strikes in Iran early today.
Additionally, Israeli officials assessed that alongside Pakpour, and Nasirzadeh, the chief of Iran’s intelligence, Esmail Khatib, was also likely killed in the strikes, though these claims are yet to be fully verified.
Several top Iranian regime and military commanders were targeted in this morning’s strikes, which included both Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian.
