New Delhi, Jan 23 (.) India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah on Friday celebrated a decade at the highest level of cricket, reflecting on his journey from a passionate young fan to one of the game’s most influential bowlers.
In an Instagram post, Bumrah wrote, “10 years of living the dream of the child who fell in love with the sport that made him feel alive like nothing in this world ever could,” adding that his journey of going against assumptions and perceptions continues with the support of family and faith.
Bumrah made his international debut in January 2016 during India’s tour of Australia, where he emerged as the highest wicket-taker of the T20I series. Over the last decade, the right-arm pacer has evolved into one of the most influential bowlers in world cricket across formats.
He is the first bowler to achieve the No.1 ranking in the ICC Men’s Player Rankings in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, and the first Indian bowler to take 100 wickets in all three formats. Bumrah represents Gujarat in domestic cricket and the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.
Among Indian fast bowlers, he is the quickest to 200 Test wickets and the second fastest to 100 ODI wickets. He played a pivotal role in India’s triumph at the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he was named Player of the Tournament after claiming 15 wickets at an economy rate of 4.17.
Bumrah was also the leading wicket-taker in T20Is in a calendar year in 2016 with 28 wickets. He made his Test debut in 2018 against South Africa and has since taken on leadership responsibilities, serving as India’s Test vice-captain since December 2023 and leading the side on three occasions in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma.
His career honours include selection in the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year in 2018 and 2024, the ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year in 2017 and 2018, and the ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Year in 2024.
He was also named in the ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Decade (2011-2020), has won the Polly Umrigar Award three times, and was included in Wisden’s Cricketers of the Year in 2022.
