Los Angeles, Feb 1 (.) The Department of Justice on Friday released three million documents from the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, along with roughly 2,000 videos and 180,000 images. The newly disclosed batch includes mentions of celebrities such as Jay-Z, Pusha T, and Harvey Weinstein, Variety reports.
Officials stressed that the mentions did not come from Epstein’s personal records nor from reports corroborated by law enforcement. The trio’s names appeared in an FBI tip that was archived as part of the investigation. The tip does not indicate that any of these individuals were investigated, nor does it suggest guilt.
According to an FBI crisis intake report included in the release, an anonymous victim alleged that Pusha T (Terrence LeVarr Thornton) acted as one of her “handlers.” The victim also claimed she once woke up in a room with Weinstein and Jay-Z (Shawn Carter). The report noted that the victim had been drugged in both instances, leaving her memory of the events unclear.
Representatives for Jay-Z and Pusha T did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Variety.
Director Mira Nair, mother of New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, was also mentioned in the release. She appeared in an email from publicist Peggy Siegal to Epstein, referencing an after-party for Nair’s 2009 film Amelia. The email does not imply any wrongdoing or investigation. Nair’s representatives also did not respond to requests for comment.
The files additionally include correspondence between Casey Wasserman, chairman of the LA28 Olympics Committee, and Ghislaine Maxwell, who was convicted of child sex trafficking in connection with Epstein. In one message, Maxwell offered Wasserman a massage described as potentially “driving a man wild.”
In a statement obtained by Variety, Wasserman said his interactions with Maxwell occurred “over two decades ago” and were “long before her horrific crimes came to light.” He emphasized, “I never had a personal or business relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. As is well documented, I went on a humanitarian trip as part of a delegation with the Clinton Foundation in 2002 on the Epstein plane. I am terribly sorry for having any association with either of them.”
The release comes after the Epstein Files Transparency Act, signed into law by President Donald Trump in November following a rare bipartisan push in Congress, mandated the public disclosure of previously sealed materials related to Epstein’s investigation. Trump, who has his own controversial past with Epstein, has consistently denied knowledge of Epstein’s criminal activities. The Epstein files have remained a persistent cultural and political touchpoint, referenced in shows like Saturday Night Live and South Park.
