New Delhi, Jan 13 (.) Delhi government minister Kapil Mishra on Tuesday issued a poster declaring Leader of the Opposition Atishi as “missing” over an alleged derogatory remark made about a Sikh Guru in the Delhi Assembly.
Addressing the media, Mishra said that an unprecedented incident took place in the Delhi Assembly on January 6 during a discussion on the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur.
He alleged that during the proceedings, Atishi used objectionable words, which he described as an insult to the Sikh Guru.
“This is a sin that has never happened in any Assembly in the country. While the House was discussing the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the Leader of the Opposition made a derogatory remark,” Mishra said.
The minister claimed that since that day, Atishi has deliberately avoided the public and the media. He further alleged that attempts were being made to hide the incident by misusing Punjab Police resources on the directions of Arvind Kejriwal and by filing false cases. Mishra appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann not to become part of what he termed as an “act of wrongdoing”.
Mishra asserted that it is a matter of record that the alleged remark was made while the Assembly was paying respect to the Gurus, calling it an act of “disrespect and a serious offence”. He added that despite the Speaker asking Atishi to present her side during the session, she did not do so and has remained absent since then.
Taking a direct swipe at Arvind Kejriwal, Mishra said, “We are not afraid of FIRs, police or jail. This is a matter of faith, and we will not be intimidated. Kejriwal should have asked Atishi to apologise.”
The issue has further intensified the political confrontation between the ruling party and the opposition in Delhi, with the controversy now centring on religious sentiments and accountability in the Assembly.
