New Delhi, Jan 24 (.) Senior Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi on Saturday extended warm greetings to the people of Uttar Pradesh on the state’s Foundation Day, highlighting its rich cultural heritage and the enduring tradition of Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb that symbolises communal harmony.
In a message shared on X, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi described Uttar Pradesh as a unique confluence of cultures and traditions that define India’s civilisational ethos. Emphasising the state’s pluralistic identity, he said Uttar Pradesh remains a key symbol of the country’s cultural heritage.
“The wonderful confluence of Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb, Uttar Pradesh—rich in prosperous and glorious traditions—is a true identity of our cultural heritage,” Gandhi wrote. Extending his wishes to the people of the state, he added, “On the occasion of State Foundation Day, my heartfelt greetings to all residents. I hope this state continues to move forward on the path of harmony and progress.”
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also took to X to convey his greetings, placing Uttar Pradesh’s cultural significance in a broader historical and spiritual context. He highlighted the state’s association with major religious figures and social reformers who have shaped India’s moral and philosophical landscape.
“Illuminated by its rich and glorious spiritual history, where the sacred memories of Lord Ram, Lord Krishna, Baba Vishwanath, Sant Kabir, and Guru Ravidas are deeply embedded, heartfelt Foundation Day greetings to all citizens of Uttar Pradesh, the great confluence of the unique Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb,” Kharge said.
Kharge further noted that Uttar Pradesh has been the birthplace and workplace of numerous saints, great personalities, and freedom fighters, playing a pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle and nation-building. “This great state has been the sacred land of many saints, eminent personalities, and freedom fighters. We wish all of you happiness, prosperity, and continuous progress,” he added.
Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state, was officially established on January 24, 1950. Known for its deep historical roots, religious landmarks, and cultural diversity, the state has long been regarded as a microcosm of India’s pluralism. The messages from the Congress leadership come amid ongoing political discourse around social harmony, cultural identity, and inclusive development in the state.
The greetings reflect an attempt to foreground unity, shared heritage, and progress, themes that continue to dominate national political conversations as Uttar Pradesh remains central to India’s political and cultural life.
