Los Angeles, Feb 26 (.) The newly released trailer for “The Christophers” pairs Ian McKellen, 86, with Michaela Coel, 38, in a story of art, deception and rivalry.
McKellen portrays Julian, a once-celebrated painter whose children, played by Jessica Gunning and James Corden, commission Coel’s character to complete his famed series of works, according to PEOPLE.
Directed by Steven Soderbergh with a script by Ed Solomon, “The Christophers” is so titled over the paintings in question. Coel’s character quickly surmises that she’s been hired to commit forgery, replicating McKellen’s famous style.
“What makes you think that you could do it?” the Oscar nominee can be heard asking Coel after she comes clean to him. “I guess that’s where the art of it comes in,” she responds.
Both actors have a packed year ahead: McKellen appears with Johnny Depp in “Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol” (November 13) and returns as Magneto in “Avengers: Doomsday” (December 18), while Coel stars alongside Anne Hathaway in “Mother Mary” (April 17).
Following a well-received premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, “The Christophers” is scheduled to hit theaters on April 10.
