Rawalpindi, Feb 7 (.) The Pakistan Supreme Court has scheduled hearings for 13 petitions related to PTI (Pakistan Tehreek–e-Insaf) founder and former premier Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi on February 9, according to a supplementary cause list issued on Saturday.
The cases of the two will be heard from 9:00am by a two-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan.
Among the matters fixed for hearing is the Punjab government’s appeal challenging the bail granted to Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
The bench will also take up Imran Khan’s appeal against proceedings initiated under the Official Secrets Act, as well as a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) case linked to the Al-Qadir University Trust.
In addition, the court is set to hear a petition challenging the acquittal of Imran Khan and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the cipher case, along with the Punjab government’s appeal against bail granted to Imran Khan in cases stemming from the infamous May 9, 2023, riots case.
The hearing list also includes Imran Khan’s appeal against a PKR10 billion ($35.87 million) defamation suit filed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The former prime minister has been incarcerated since August 2023, following convictions in multiple cases that he maintains are politically motivated after his removal from office through a no-confidence vote in April 2022.
His first conviction related to the Toshakhana case, stem from allegations that he illegally sold state gifts he had received from foreign leaders while in office.
Subsequent verdicts imposed additional sentences, including 10 years in prison in the cipher case and 14 years in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case.
Last month, both Khan and Bushra Bibi were sentenced to 17 years’ imprisonment in another Toshakhana-related case, further compounding the legal challenges facing the PTI leader, who continues enjoying massive public support despite being in jail for nearly four years.
