‎New Delhi, Jan 22 (.) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, with the two leaders reaffirming their commitment to further strengthen the India–Brazil Strategic Partnership and elevate bilateral ties in the coming year.
‎During the telephone conversation, Prime Minister Modi and President Lula reviewed the steady expansion of cooperation between the two countries and expressed satisfaction over the progress made across a wide range of sectors, including trade and investment, technology, defence, energy, health, agriculture and people-to-people exchanges.
‎Recalling their meetings in Brasilia and on the sidelines of engagements in South Africa last year, the leaders noted that bilateral cooperation had gained momentum. According to the official account of the call, the two leaders agreed that sustained high-level engagement had helped advance collaboration in both traditional and emerging areas.
‎“The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the India–Brazil Strategic Partnership and take it to even greater heights in the year ahead,” a government statement said.
‎Prime Minister Modi and President Lula also exchanged views on key regional and global developments, underscoring the importance of closer coordination between major emerging economies. They emphasised the need for reformed multilateralism to effectively address shared global challenges, including those related to development, climate change and global governance.
‎India and Brazil, both members of groupings such as BRICS and the G20, have increasingly worked together on issues concerning the Global South. Their partnership is anchored in shared democratic values, economic complementarities and cooperation in multilateral forums.
‎During the conversation, Prime Minister Modi conveyed that he looks forward to welcoming President Lula to India at an early date, underlining the importance both sides attach to maintaining regular dialogue at the highest level.
‎The call comes amid efforts by New Delhi and Brasilia to further diversify bilateral engagement and deepen cooperation in strategic and people-centric sectors.
