New Delhi, Feb 7 (.) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday departed for Malaysia, aiming to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. His visit will focus on enhancing defense and security cooperation, boosting economic engagement, and exploring new areas of innovation, as well as deepening people-to-people ties.

‎In a departure statement issued ahead of his visit, the Prime Minister said he was travelling to Malaysia at the invitation of his “friend, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim,” and looked forward to holding wide-ranging discussions aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation.

‎”The historic ties between India and Malaysia have seen steadfast progress in recent years,” PM Modi said. “I look forward to my discussions with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and to further enhancing our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.”

‎According to the Prime Minister, the talks will seek to deepen defence and security ties, strengthen economic cooperation and innovation linkages, and expand collaboration into new and emerging domains.

‎India and Malaysia share long-standing civilizational and cultural links, and their relationship was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in recent years. Bilateral engagement has grown across sectors such as trade, investment, defence, education and digital cooperation, supported by regular high-level exchanges.

‎PM Modi also underlined the importance of people-to-people ties, particularly the role of the Indian community in Malaysia, one of the largest Indian diasporas in the world.

‎”I am also eager to meet the Indian community in Malaysia,” he said. “Numbering nearly three million, they represent one of the largest Indian diasporas in the world. Their immense contribution to Malaysia’s progress and their role as a living bridge between our two nations provide a strong foundation to our historic friendship.”

‎The Indian diaspora in Malaysia has historically played a significant role in the country’s economic, social and cultural development, and has remained a key pillar of bilateral relations.
