New Delhi, Feb 17 (.) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended a warm welcome to French President Emmanuel Macron, expressing confidence that his visit would elevate India–France relations and strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors.
In a post on X, Modi wrote: “Welcome to India! India looks forward to your visit and to advancing our bilateral ties to new heights. I am confident that our discussions will further strengthen cooperation across sectors and contribute to global progress. See you in Mumbai and later in Delhi, my dear friend Emmanuel Macron.”
The message underscores the close personal rapport between the two leaders and signals the strategic importance both countries attach to their partnership.
India and France share a long-standing strategic partnership that spans defence, civil nuclear energy, space cooperation, climate action, and the Indo-Pacific region. Over the years, the relationship has deepened through high-level exchanges and major agreements, including defence procurement and joint military exercises.
Diplomatic sources said the visit is expected to focus on expanding collaboration in emerging technologies, renewable energy, maritime security, and trade and investment. “The India–France partnership is built on trust and shared democratic values,” a senior official familiar with the agenda said. “This visit provides an opportunity to align priorities on global challenges, including climate change, geopolitical stability, and sustainable development.”
President Macron’s itinerary includes engagements in Mumbai before heading to New Delhi for formal talks. Meetings are expected to include business leaders and senior government officials, highlighting the economic dimension of the relationship.
France is one of India’s key European trading partners, with growing cooperation in sectors such as aerospace, infrastructure, urban development, and clean energy. Analysts say both sides are keen to unlock further investment flows and strengthen supply chain resilience amid shifting global dynamics.
The visit comes at a time of heightened geopolitical uncertainty and evolving global alliances. India and France have increasingly coordinated positions on issues in the Indo-Pacific and have emphasised the importance of a free, open, and rules-based international order.
As President Macron prepares to meet Prime Minister Modi in Mumbai and later in Delhi, expectations are high that the talks will yield new initiatives aimed at further consolidating one of India’s most significant partnerships in Europe.
