Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring dignity, opportunity and a hopeful future for every girl child, saying sustained focus on education, skilling and healthcare over the past decade has helped create an enabling environment for girls to flourish and contribute to a developed India.

    ‎New Delhi, Jan 24 (.) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring dignity, opportunity and a hopeful future for every girl child, saying sustained focus on education, skilling and healthcare over the past decade has helped create an enabling environment for girls to flourish and contribute to a developed India.
    ‎In a message posted on X on the occasion of National Girl Child Day, the Prime Minister said the empowerment of girls remains central to India’s development journey. “On National Girl Child Day, we reaffirm our unwavering resolve to ensure that the girl child leads a life of dignity, opportunity and hope,” PM Modi said.
    He added that targeted interventions in education, skill development and health have played a crucial role in improving outcomes for girls across the country.
    ‎Highlighting the broader vision behind these efforts, PM Modi said the progress made by girls and women is essential to achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat. “This has ensured an environment where the girl child can flourish and effectively contribute towards a Viksit Bharat,” he noted.
    ‎Over the last decade, the government has rolled out and expanded several schemes aimed at improving the status of the girl child, including Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, and initiatives focused on nutrition, maternal health and access to education.
    According to government data, female enrolment in schools and colleges has risen steadily, while indicators such as institutional deliveries and immunisation coverage for girls have also shown improvement.
    ‎National Girl Child Day, observed annually on January 24, was instituted by the Ministry of Women and Child Development to raise awareness about the rights of the girl child and to promote gender equality. The day also serves as a reminder of the need to address persistent challenges such as child marriage, gender-based discrimination and unequal access to opportunities.
    ‎Officials said the government remains committed to strengthening policies and programmes that ensure girls not only survive but thrive, calling their empowerment a “non-negotiable pillar” of India’s social and economic progress.
