New Delhi, Jan 21 (.) President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday extended her greetings to the people of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura as the three northeastern states marked their Statehood Day, praising their “enterprising and talented people” for their contributions to the nation’s progress.
In her message, the President said the states are blessed with a rich cultural heritage, vibrant traditions and exceptional natural beauty. She wished their residents a future marked by peace and prosperity.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his greetings to the people of the three northeastern states on the occasion of their Statehood Day.
In a post on social media X, Modi congratulated the people of the three states and conveyed his best wishes for their future. “Today, three states of the North East-Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura—are celebrating their Statehood Day. On this occasion, my heartiest congratulations to all my brothers and sisters here,” the PM said.
Modi expressed hope that the people of the three states would continue to work for progress in all areas.
“May they achieve success in every field of life through their own efforts—that is my sincerest wish,” Modi added.
Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura attained statehood on January 21, 1972, marking an important milestone in India’s post-Independence political reorganisation.
Congress President Malikarjun Kharge wrote on X, “May this day bring renewed hope, and may you (people of the three states) be blessed with peace, prosperity, and all round progress in the years ahead.”
The day is observed annually in the three states with official functions, cultural programmes and public events celebrating their history, identity and contributions to the nation.
Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura are strategically important border states. Manipur shares a boundary with Myanmar, while Meghalaya and Tripura border Bangladesh.
