Hyderabad, Feb 9 (.) PVR INOX, India’s leading multiplex chain, on Monday launched a new 9-screen cinema at Lakeshore Mall, Y-Junction, Kukatpally, further expanding its presence in Hyderabad.
Speaking to the media, PVR INOX Limited Managing Director Ajay Bijli said the Kukatpally property is the company’s 19th cinema in Hyderabad, taking the total number of screens in the city to 190. With this addition, PVR INOX now operates 1,791 screens across 358 multiplexes in 112 cities nationwide.
Bijli said the new multiplex features nine screens, each designed with a distinct theme to cater to families, working professionals, Gen Z and millennials. A key highlight is the PXL (Picture Extra Large) format, a large curved screen with immersive sound, offering an enhanced cinematic experience. This is the second PXL auditorium in Hyderabad, the first being at Inorbit Mall.
He also announced the launch of the city’s second Playhouse format at this location, following the one at Next Galleria, Panjagutta. Designed especially for children, the Playhouse auditorium features vibrant interiors and interactive elements to make movie-watching more engaging for young audiences.
Bijli said PVR INOX is focused on expanding screens as audiences continue to prefer the big-screen experience. He added that the multiplex will screen content in multiple languages, including international films in Korean, Japanese and French, to cater to evolving audience preferences.
On the food and beverage front, he said the company has introduced new in-house brands, including a speciality hot dog concept offering classic, Mexican and other variants. He also noted strong occupancy levels during the recent Pongal season, reflecting sustained demand for theatrical experiences.
Describing the PXL format, Bijli said the screen spans wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling, with a 1.9 ratio, approximately 55.6 feet in width, and improved seating and legroom for superior viewing comfort.
