New Delhi, Feb 3(.) Delhi Cabinet Minister Parvesh Verma addressed a press conference at the Delhi Secretariat on Tuesday, describing the union Budget 2026-27 as a “next-generation budget” that strengthens India’s economic foundation while accelerating Delhi’s development.
He said that India has emerged as a trusted global economic power a confidence clearly reflected in major international trade decisions and growing investor faith in the Indian economy.
Referring to the recent reduction of tariffs on Indian goods by the United States to 18 percent, Verma termed it a major economic achievement for India, showcasing the world’s increasing trust in India’s strength, stability, and growth potential.
“India is a strong and reliable global economic force. Our exporters will benefit, investments will rise, and new opportunities will open across sectors” he said.
Connecting this global momentum with the union Budget 2026–27, the minister said the government’s economic vision is focused on long-term nation building rather than short-term populism.
”This Budget is not about what we gain today, but about what India will become tomorrow. It lays the roadmap for a developed India by 2047 – and a developed Delhi alongside it,” he said.
Highlighting Delhi’s infrastructure push, Parvesh Verma stated that the Public Works Department received Rs. 805 crore for road development in the current financial year, and for 2026–27, the department will seek Central support and allocations of around Rs. 1,200 crore for large-scale road strengthening and expansion.
“This enhanced Central backing will significantly improve road quality, ease traffic congestion, and enhance commuter safety across the capital,” he added.
He noted that as the national capital, Delhi is now witnessing faster project execution through close coordination between the Centre and the Delhi Government, with several long-pending infrastructure works moving forward at full pace.
Speaking on governance reforms, the minister said the past 11 months have brought stability, accountability, and efficiency allowing stalled projects to restart and public services to improve.
“Earlier, Delhi’s development was repeatedly blocked by political confrontation. Today, work is happening with focus, transparency, and speed.” Parvesh Verma said.
