The much-anticipated Tamil cinema spectacle ‘Thalaivar 173’, featuring Superstar Rajinikanth and produced by legendary actor-turned politician Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI), will be helmed by popular director Cibi Chakravarthy.
This was officially announced on Saturday by Kamal’s film production house RKFI along with the release of the first look poster featuring Rajini. ending weeks of uncertainty.
Initially announced as a landmark collaboration uniting and featuring two of Indian cinema’s most iconic stars–Rajinikanth and
Kamal Haasan–‘Thalaivar 173’ is being positioned as one of the marquee Tamil films slated for release during Pongal festival 2027.
However, the project hit a bump late last year when another renowned director Sundar C, who had been introduced as the film’s
first director, announced his exit from the venture due to “unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances.”
His statement expressing regret over stepping down sparked intense discussion among industry watchers and fans alike.
Kamal said since the storyline did not match to Rajini’s expectations, the idea was dropped and exuded confidence of getting a
good storyline to the fullest satisfaction of the Superstar.
And this was fulfilled, with the formal announcement that ”Thalaivar 173′ will be produced under the RKFI banner and directed
by Cibi Chakravarthy.
