Bhubaneswar, Feb 3 (.) Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a flagship unit of Maharatna company SAIL, has set new benchmarks across multiple production and dispatch parameters during the first ten months of the financial year 2025-26.
Demonstrating robust operational efficiency, the plant recorded its best-ever April–January performance, surpassing previous records in key areas of steel production, hot metal output, and logistics.
RSP produced 34,57,761 tonnes of saleable steel between April 2025 and January 2026, overtaking its previous best of 34,35,767 tonnes in the same period last year. This growth was driven by stellar performances across its units:
Hot Strip Mill-2 (HSM-2) rolled 22,06,432 tonnes of HR coils, exceeding its previous record of 21,16,097 tonnes. Its New Sheet Shearing Line (SSL) also achieved a milestone by producing 2,59,870 tonnes of HR plates, marking a 23% increase over last year.
New Plate Mill produced 8,25,999 tonnes of plates, surpassing its earlier best of 7,73,779 tonnes.
Blast Furnace-5 ‘Durga’ recorded a record 26,97,961 tonnes of hot metal, while Blast Furnace-1 ‘Parvati’ contributed 8,95,446 tonnes, both achieving their highest-ever outputs. Sinter Plant-III: also achieved its top performance with 30,97,986 tonnes of sinter produced.
RSP also made strides in logistics, registering a record single-day road dispatch of 5,576 tonnes on January 30, 2026. The Traffic & Raw Materials Department set a new benchmark with 3,04,649 tonnes of rail dispatch in January 2026, carried out in 114 rakes, surpassing the previous record of 2,98,219 tonnes in January 2024.
