Washington, Jan 22 (.) Singers Rufus Wainwright and Norah Jones are set to pay tribute to the late Marianne Faithfull at the 2026 ‘Sundance Film Festival’. The special performance will take place at Park City’s Eccles Theatre following the premiere of Broken English, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Directed by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, Broken English is a genre-defying portrait of the iconic singer and songwriter. The film, which had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival last fall, opens with a fictional framing device set within the “Ministry of Not Forgetting,” where Tilda Swinton and George MacKay investigate Faithfull’s life and artistic legacy.
Faithfull, who passed away on January 30, 2025, at the age of 78, is celebrated through a mix of archival material and performance footage.
Described as “a playful and wildly original portrait of a musician who refused to conform,” the film also features appearances by Sophia Di Martino, Zawe Ashton, Calvin Demba, Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Courtney Love, Suki Waterhouse, Beth Orton, and Jehnny Beth.
The announcement of Wainwright and Jones’ tribute performance was made by ‘Sundance Film Festival’ Director of Programming Kim Yutani during a press welcome event at The Park in Park City.
She was joined onstage by Sundance leaders Eugene Hernandez, Michelle Satter, John Nein, and Amy Redford, daughter of the late Robert Redford.
Broken English will screen in the festival’s Spotlight section. The ‘Sundance Film Festival’ is scheduled to run from January 22 to February 1 across Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah.
