Mumbai, Feb 15 (.) Bollywood filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has teamed up with veteran director Ketan Mehta to bring to life ‘Jai Somnath’, an ambitious historical drama centred on a pivotal moment in Indian history.
The story of ‘Jai Somnath’ will take audiences back to 1025-1026 AD, when Mahmud of Ghazni attacked and plundered the Somnath Temple in Gujarat, a chapter in Indian history that showcases the power to rise again after destruction.
This year marks 1000 years since the attack and destruction of the temple and this film will symbolise India’s unwavering courage and the pride of its civilization. Despite its profound historical resonance and emotional weight, this chapter has remained largely unexplored in mainstream Indian cinema.
What makes ‘Jai Somnath’ truly special is the collaboration between Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ketan Mehta. While Bhansali is renowned for his grandeur and the magical world he creates on the big screen, Ketan Mehta is known for his bold stories and historical vision.
