Riyadh, Feb 16 (.) The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Monday condemned Israel’s decision to reclassify lands in the occupied West Bank as “state lands,” calling it a violation of international law and a threat to peace efforts in the region.
In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the move imposes a new legal and administrative reality in the occupied territory, undermining the two-state solution and Palestinian rights.
The ministry reaffirmed that Israel has no sovereignty over Palestinian land and described the measures as an assault on the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Israeli government’s approval of a plan to classify large areas of the occupied West Bank as “state property” if Palestinians cannot prove ownership prompted regional criticism and accusations of “de facto annexation.”
The proposal was put forward by far-right ministers Bezalel Smotrich (Finance), Yariv Levin (Justice), and Israel Katz (Defense).
Smotrich described the plan as a continuation of “the settlement revolution to control all our lands,” while Levin called it a demonstration of Israel’s commitment “to strengthening its grip on all its parts.”
The approval revives “settlement of land title” processes, which have been suspended since Israel’s occupation of the West Bank in 1967.
