New Delhi, Jan 9 (.) The Supreme Court has permitted the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Board (JKCB) elections, scheduled for January 16, 2026, to go ahead as per schedule, but restrained the declaration of results until further orders, after taking serious note of allegations of fraud and manipulation of the electoral rolls.
A Bench, comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, on Thursday passed the interim order while issuing notice on a writ petition filed by 19 out of 25 affiliated cricket clubs, alleging large-scale irregularities by members of the BCCI-appointed Sub-Committee managing the affairs of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA).
The elections stem from an earlier Supreme Court order dated October 27, 2025, by which the apex court directed that elections to the JKCA be conducted within 12 weeks, strictly in accordance with the court-approved JKCA Constitution, irrespective of whether the constitution had been formally registered.
The Court had made it clear that no further delay would be permitted in view of prolonged litigation and an administrative vacuum within the association.
Pursuant to the said order, the top court appointed former Chief Election Commissioner Achal Kumar Jyoti as the Election Supervisor, entrusting him with the preparation of the electoral college, scrutiny of objections and conduct of polling to ensure free and fair elections.
The elections are scheduled to be held on January 16, 2026, under the Court’s supervision.
