Ranchi, Jan 10(.): SG Pipers on Saturday defeated Shrachi Bengal Tigers in penalties to win the Women’s Hockey India League 2025-26 at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Stadium.
The two teams went to tie breaker to decide the title after they were locked 1-1 in regulation time.
Pipers’ Spanish defender Lola Riera’s converted the all important penalty to ensure a title win for the team that had ended last on the standings table. Pipers won the penalties 3-2.
Pipers was the team that showed more intent during the first quarter, but after the break it was the Tigers who were rewarded for their high press as India international Lalremsiami drew first blood.
The Tigers seem to be well on their way to a title win but India international Preeti Dubey capitalise on a goalmouth scramble to equalize just seven minutes before the hooter.
Both teams pushed hard for a decisive goal in the closing stages, but regulation time ended with the scores locked at 1-1, sending the final to a shootout.
In the shootout, SG Pipers showed nerves of steel. Goalkeeper Bansari Solanki produced crucial saves under pressure, while the Pipers’ shooters held their nerve to secure a 3-2 victory and spark jubilant celebrations on the turf.
