Visakhapatnam, Jan 10 (.) : Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways, laid the foundation stone for four major projects at Visakhapatnam port here on Saturday.
The initiatives aim to strengthen safety, infrastructure, administration, and residential facilities at the port.
The projects include –Upgradation of LPG berth firefighting facilities at a cost of Rs 52.23 crore; Modernization of ORS Dry Dock for ship repair and revenue generation, estimated at Rs 35.87 crore; Construction of G 9 Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Administrative Bhavan with green building standards, costing Rs 97.70 crore and residential apartments at Harbour Park valued at Rs 44.20 crore, aimed at land monetization and enhanced living amenities for port employees.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarbananda Sonowal expressed confidence that the port would cross 100 million metric tonnes of cargo throughput, and noted that Vizag Ports Authority (VPA) ranks among the top-performing ports in India and globally.
In his welcome address, VPA Chairperson Dr. M. Angamuthu, highlighted the port management’s commitment to improving working and living conditions for officers and staff.
On the occasion, the union Minister also presented course completion certificates and placement orders to students trained under VPA sponsorship at CEMS.
