New Delhi, Feb 20 (.) The stock market on Friday staged a strong rebound with the Nifty closing above 25,550. The market was supported by broad-based buying across sectors, except IT stocks.
At close, the Sensex was up 316.57 points or 0.38% at 82,814.71, and the Nifty was up 116.90 points or 0.46% at 25,571.25.
The Nifty Midcap index gained 0.5%, whereas the Smallcap index closed slightly in the red. The overall market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms rose to Rs 467 lakh crore from Rs 465 lakh crore in the previous session.
Among the sectors, most of the indices ended in the green except IT and media. Sectors like power, metal, capital goods, and PSU Bank were up 1-2%.
On Nifty, the major gainers were Hindalco Industries, NTPC, SBI Life, L&T, and Coal India. On the losing side were Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Eternal, HCL Technologies, and Grasim Industries.
MCX gold rate opened 0.18% higher at Rs 1,55,105 per 10 grams while MCX silver rate opened higher by Rs 2,481, or 1.02%, at Rs 2,43,874 per kg.
The Indian rupee closed at 90.9825 per dollar, down 0.3% on the day.
On the BSE, over 200 stocks touched their 52-week low. These included Firstsource Solutions, Ola Electric, Clean Science, Hexaware Technologies, Just Dial, Suzlon Energy, Bata India, Cello World, Poly Medicure, Info Edge, Concord Biotech, Zensar Technologies, LT Technology, Mankind Pharma, C. E. Info, AWL Agri, Wipro, KEC International, Vedant Fashions, among others.
In terms of some of the key performers, Lenskart Solutions’ share price rose 1.5% after Motilal Oswal Securities initiated a ‘buy’ rating.
Nifty IT index was up over 1.5% with heavyweights including Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, and HCL Technologies gained nearly 2% each, while Wipro and Tech Mahindra shares gained around 1% each.
